Dr. Thomas F. Wylie, Senior Vice President and Provost at New England Institute of Technology (ÁùºÏ²ÊÖ±²¥tvb), announced that the college will offer an Associate in Science degree in Veterinary Practice Management (VPM) Technology beginning July, 2013.
The VPM program follows a six quarter curriculum designed to teach the management skills necessary to run a veterinary practice as well as offer the required credits for students who choose to take the national veterinary practice manager certification exam.
Veterinary practice managers are responsible for the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice. They may be called upon to supervise front desk employees, coordinate hiring processes, assess health care plans and human resource issues, interact with customers/clients, and oversee the retail operation for those practices possessing one. This program will combine basic level veterinary knowledge in anatomy, physiology and pharmacology as well as management skills including human resources, customer service, legal and ethical issues, and practice management. The program will integrate theory, hands-on lab assignments, and practicum work to emphasize the application of knowledge.
Graduates from the VPM technology will have the skills and educational requirements necessary to become professional office managers in small to medium size multi-veterinary practices, to work as mid-level managers in large veterinary hospitals, and to work in sales and marketing in the veterinary or veterinary pharmacology fields.
